“I just wanted to play the saxophone, I just wanted to make music.  And then that’s opened doors to other things, like going to see the queen…

“The reason why I’m still insane is because I realise that jazz music is supposed to be about new challenges.  Jazz music is creativity.”

Internationally renowned jazz musician, and founder of Creative People Music.  Possibly the most impassioned person we’ve ever met.  This episode is full of his gorgeous music.

“People have a perception of you as an artist being fluffy-headed, a bit weird and a bit off the wall.  It’s as if you can’t be an artist and be a very good project manager, or a very good business person.

“I think I can do all of those things, and I apply my creative ability to every one of those things.”

Episode 17 – New Paths

Hello creatives!

Episode 17 was one of those late night jobs. It took a few days to get the pieces together, but I’ve made it! Been a busy month for me this month.

Basically, I’ve found myself in a new temporary job working with ArtWorks-U, and a central part of my role is producing/presenting a new weekly radio broadcast/podcast called ArtyParti.

More news to follow, lots to update you on…

But first…

On Episode 17 of 99% Perspiration:

After 30 years working in a non-creative industry, Diane Gray now manages the community radio station Hive Radio, based in Jarrow, UK. In 2014, Diane won the silver Charles Parker Prize for her radio documentary; and is now working on radio drama alongside her role at Hive.

Episode 5:

Gem McNair of Crafty Wee Cow – based in Glasgow, it’s a somewhat new company, specialising in really awesome arts and craft work. Gem’s got tons of advice about competition, marketing & building up confidence if you’re trying to get your arts/crafts work sold.

Joe Collins, who jumbles two jobs simultaneously; he’s the co-owner of Homeside Coffee, an independent coffee shop in Sunderland, and also a member Lilliput. A realist at heart, Joe doesn’t hold back from sharing his opinions on the Sunderland music scene, and the positives and negatives of trying to fit music into your life.

The really quite kick-ass band that is Lilliput generously allowed us to use their music for this episode – and I really do recommend you check them out!

Until next time…

Stay productive, stay awesome!
